Creating a Site

To create a new site, navigate to Sites in the sidebar and click + New Site. You will be taken to the site creation form.

Form fields

Name (required)

Enter a human-readable name for your site, such as "Automotive Plant North" or "Data Center Frankfurt". The name can be up to 255 characters long.

Alias (required)

The alias is a URL-friendly identifier used internally to reference the site. It is auto-generated from the name — for example, "Automotive Plant North" becomes automotive-plant-north.

You can manually edit the alias if needed. It must follow these rules:

• Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only
• Must start with a lowercase letter
• No consecutive hyphens
• Between 3 and 50 characters

A green checkmark appears next to the field when the alias is valid. A red indicator appears if the alias does not meet the requirements.

Site Category

Select the category that best describes your installation. Fleetera provides 12 platform categories organized by industry group, and your organization can also define custom categories. See Site Categories for descriptions of all available categories.

Status

Set the operational status of the site. The default is Active. Available statuses:

Location

The location picker sets the site's GPS coordinates and its address, the place name shown with the site. Everything is on one panel, top to bottom: an address search box, the map, and the Address, Latitude and Longitude fields. Use whichever is quickest; the others follow.

• Search — start typing a town, street or landmark. Suggestions appear once you have typed three characters. Click one, or choose it with the arrow keys and Enter, and the address, latitude and longitude are filled in, the pin is placed and the map moves to it. The suggestions are credited "Powered by Geoapify" and "© OpenStreetMap contributors".
• Map — Fleetera's own map, in the same style as the sites map. Click to place the pin, then drag it to adjust. From the keyboard, focus the map, pan with the arrow keys and press Enter to drop the pin at the crosshair; on the focused pin, the arrow keys move it, and Shift moves it further. Latitude and longitude update as the pin moves, and the address is looked up for the point where it lands. The map shows countries, regions and towns rather than streets, so a click places the site at region precision. For an exact position, search or type the coordinates.
• Latitude and Longitude — type the coordinates directly. Once you stop typing, the pin and the map move to them and the address is looked up.
• Address — shows the place name found for the point, credited "Powered by Geoapify" and "© OpenStreetMap contributors". You can type your own instead. A typed address is kept until you move the point again; moving it by search, map or coordinates replaces it with the place name found for the new point.

If a place name cannot be looked up, the coordinates are kept and a short note under the address says so. You can type the address yourself, or save the site without one.

Commissioned Date

Optionally set the date the site became operational. This is stored in ISO 8601 format (YYYY-MM-DD) and displayed on the site overview.

Submitting the form

Click Create Site to save. The button is disabled until the name and alias fields are filled in and the alias passes validation.

On success, you are redirected to the sites list and a confirmation toast appears. If there is a validation error, a message is shown at the top of the form.

What happens next

After creation, the site appears in the sites list. Click on it to open the site's Home page, where you can:

• Add assets manually or instantiate from a template
• Create connectors for data acquisition
• Set up edge deployments
