Creating a Site
Step-by-step walkthrough of the site creation form.
To create a new site, navigate to Sites in the sidebar and click + New Site. You will be taken to the site creation form.
Form fields
Name (required)
Enter a human-readable name for your site, such as "Automotive Plant North" or "Data Center Frankfurt". The name can be up to 255 characters long.
Alias (required)
The alias is a URL-friendly identifier used internally to reference the site. It is auto-generated from the name — for example, "Automotive Plant North" becomes automotive-plant-north.
You can manually edit the alias if needed. It must follow these rules:
- Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only
- Must start with a lowercase letter
- No consecutive hyphens
- Between 3 and 50 characters
A green checkmark appears next to the field when the alias is valid. A red indicator appears if the alias does not meet the requirements.
Site Category
Select the category that best describes your installation. Fleetera provides 12 platform categories organized by industry group, and your organization can also define custom categories. See Site Categories for descriptions of all available categories.
Status
Set the operational status of the site. The default is Active. Available statuses:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Active | Site is operational and collecting data |
| Inactive | Site is not currently in use |
| Under Maintenance | Site is undergoing maintenance |
Location
The location picker lets you set GPS coordinates for your site in one of three ways:
- Search — type an address and select from autocomplete suggestions. The coordinates and location label are filled in automatically.
- Map — click a point on the interactive map to place a pin. Coordinates are captured from the click position.
- Manual — enter latitude and longitude values directly, and optionally add a human-readable location label.
Once coordinates are set, a preview displays the location label (or "Location selected") and the coordinates.
The Search and Map modes require Google Maps to be configured. If only manual entry is available, coordinates can still be entered directly.
Commissioned Date
Optionally set the date the site became operational. This is stored in ISO 8601 format (YYYY-MM-DD) and displayed on the site overview.
Submitting the form
Click Create Site to save. The button is disabled until the name and alias fields are filled in and the alias passes validation.
On success, you are redirected to the sites list and a confirmation toast appears. If there is a validation error, a message is shown at the top of the form.
What happens next
After creation, the site appears in the sites list. Click on it to open the site's Home page, where you can:
- Add assets manually or instantiate from a template
- Create connectors for data acquisition
- Set up edge deployments
